Persepolis or Takhte Jamshid of Iran used to be a city in Marvdasht of Fars province near Shiraz city. This city is a great symbol of glory, proud and also a proof of civilization in Persia. This ancient city is one of the many remains of Achaemenid Empire which dates back to more than 2500 years ago. The age when almost the half of the world belonged to Persia. 9 x 9 kilometers around these remains used to be the house of ordinary residents. The mountain behind the Persepolis used as a line for military protection.

What fascinates all tourists who come to visit Persepolis not only is its antiquity but the social law, human rights law and civilization existence at that time which much evidence confirm them. The architecture of this town was designed in a way which made there convenient for 12000 people life. The building process of this magnificent city took 120 years to complete and started at the behest of Darius the Great in 518 BC, 12 years after Cyrus the Great’s death with the intention of connection of all nations and finishing the war.



Persepolis, Parse city, Takhte Jamshid are all the names this town. “Persepolis” word is a Greek and means Parse city. The method of management and behavior towards workers at that time is a considerable affair. The evidence indicate that they care about people and their rights and people would be treated according to the laws which were written on Cyrus the Great’s Cylinder. The laws like the abolition of slavery, prohibition of suffering kids and women and freedom of thought and opinion. On the inscription some laws about Maternity leave and salary have been observed by archeologists.

Lots of people include men and women, artists and architects played their own role to complete such an important city.

Research indicates that despite existence of many modern equipment in current century the building of these palaces is not such easy. They say Darius built there to tell the future about civilization and power of Persia in his own age. Here in this historical city, art of sculpturing and lithography has fascinated artists, architectural design has stunned every architects. This is so exciting for engineers to know how and with what technology they moved and lifted the huge stones in 25 centuries ago. As we said this ancient city has been built for 120 years and different Achaemenid kings.

The entrance of this magnificent city consists of two parts:

  • Stairs of entrance
  • Gate of all nations

Stairs of entrance

If you stand in front of the palace, you can see two stone staircases, one of them at the left side and the other one at the right side of the palace. They have been built perfectly symmetrical. They also considered the safety and made beautiful stone banister over the edge of staircases. Unfortunately, some of these stone banisters have been damaged during the years. The stairs are short enough for horses to go upstairs.



Gate of all nation

There are many exciting pointes which indicate that here is a great entrance where governors from different countries come there to visit Achaemenid kings in different age. Such as an inscription on the stone gate which implies this part of the city started at Darius the Great era and completed in Xerxes era. The heavy and huge stones have put on another huge stone to make such magnificent tall columns. If you pay attention to the walls and columns, you will notice that they didn’t use any substance as adhesive in order to keep the stones from moving on another stone.
