Yazd water museum is on northern part of Amir Chakhmaq Square and on one of main Qanat in Yazd city. They built Yazd water museum on an ancient house which brings you in several years ago. After entering to the old house, the atmosphere invites you to contemplate the importance of water during the history. Actually, they opened such a museum because of showing the value of water and engineering in water supply in the town. Yazd water museum is a special water museum because there is an underground Qanat and ditch passing below there. This Qanat and ditch date back to centuries ago. Now we are going to have a little talk about some parts of this museum:

Kolahdooz House

One of the precious historic places where Yazd water museum and two main Qanats is in there is Kolahdooz house. At the behest of Akbar Kolahdooz one of businessman built there at that age (1269 SH). Yazd water museum building has five floors:

The lowest floor-Qanat

At the lowest level of that house, underground there is split of two ditches of Rahimabad and Zarach Qanat. Zarach Qanat is from 2000 years ago and has 75 kilometers length.

Payab

A floor upper than the lowest floor where its name is Payab has a suitable condition because the temperature always was 14 degrees therefore, they used there for keeping the foodstuffs. The 10-meter-depth of this floor is the main reason of constant temperature. And also, existence of a corridor and a little pool causes to ventilate the air as a result of passing cold wind so they can have a fresh air in there.

Two floors upper than the lowest level

This floor was a comfortable floor for settling calm from hot days of summer. From for corners of the great yard there are ways so to reach to this floor.



Ground Floor

They built this floor in a special layout includes door and Orsi windows, porches, rooms and main kitchens with special painting with plastering on the walls and ceilings so crews can live there.

Fifth floor, wellhouse or roof

This final is the roof of four floors that we mentioned before. There is a water pit at the middle of beautiful yard which settlements obtained drinkable and washing water. Two men were responsible for taking water through the well with a tool. People called two men Miraab.

Museum

In the museum you can see Qanat digging equipment form centuries ago and even some of them Thousands of years ago. This equipment proves that people in Iran used science and technology in order to dig Qanats and also distribute water on an equal amount between agricultural land.
