Why is it called Naqsh-e Rostam?

Iranian call there Naqsh-e Rostam because they did not know about their history before Islam till 100 years ago. They watched the lithographs on the stone and the mountain and attribute them to Shahnameh which is written by Ferdowsi. Rostam is a warrior and a hero in Shahnameh. When they saw the picture of warriors on the stone they imagined that they pertain to Shahnameh and Rostam. this is why they call it Naqsh-e Rostam.

Why is it called Necropolis?

Necropolis means the city of dead because here is the tomb of four Achaemenid kings.
