Chehel Sotoun Garden of Isfahan dates back to Abbas the great (1st shah abbas). Actually, the age when Shah Abbas defined Isfahan as capital of Iran. In 1007 AH this was one the city design plan that make several gardens in order to build a beautiful street. The name of gardens was Khargah garden, Bolbol garden, Hasht Behesht Garden, Fathabad Garden, Kaj garden, Nastaran garden, Kahlat garden and Angoorestan garden and etc. Between all gardens Just Hast Behesht and Chehel Sotoun remain.



Area

The main area of Chehel Sotoun garden of Isfahan is 68000 Sq.m However, the area of palace is more than 2100 Sq.m.

Architecture

The architecture of Chehel Sotoun Garden of Isfahan consists of Chinese, Persian and Europe art architecture. There is a great porch with 38 meters length, 17 meters width and 14 meters height dimension. In addition, they made such a fantastic porch on 18 wooden pillars. These octagon wooden pillars are made with pine tree. They also made four stone lions which four middle pillars are on them. Between four stone lions there is a marble pool which water from stone lions’ mouth poured into that pool.

You can also see the symmetry shape of pool on ceiling as you can see the exact same thing in porch of Ali Qapu. In general, the arts that you can see in Chehel Sotoun of Isfahan are Mirror Hall, 18-pillar Hall, Stone lions and intriguing paintings.

All painting on the walls in Chehel Sotoun palace of Isfahan refers visitors to a historic event. In central Hall there is an image of welcome ceremony of Abbas the great from admirals of other countries. Another image face to the main palace entrance refers to Battle of Chaldiran.

Some of these paintings date back to Qajar dynasty. After those paintings, in the age of Zello Soltan, one of Persian prince in Qajar dynasty, they covered the paintings with plaster. Then after that, experts uncovered them.
