Ali Qapu palace of Isfahan is on western side of Naqsh-e-Jahan square opposite the mosque which its name is Sheykh Lotfollah mosque. As a result of research, surveys and resources regarding this fantastic palace we can conclude that Ali Qapu of Isfahan was the main entrance of all palaces in Naqsh-e-Jahan square.
Actually, the entrance of palaces like govern-house, Chehel Sotoun Palace Taymoury hall and etc. The architects and painters built Ali Qapu palace of Isfahan in 971 SH (Abbass the Great era) and after him, his successors. Meaning
Ali Qapu consists of two Turkish words which in English language mean “tall facade”.
Exterior View
Because of the changes during the time and also additions in govern of different kings, this palace has different views from different directions. From front view seems to be 2 floors, from back five floors, from both sides 3 floors but actually this is a six-floor palace.
Entrance
The entrance of Ali Qapu is fully made of Porphyry stone. We can enter the palace and go to the upper floors through two staircases on both sides.
Interior View
The interior architecture of this six-floor building each floor has its own design painting and decoration.
Despite the damages after Safavid dynasty there are so many paintings and masterpieces which enchant you during your visit. At the ground floor of Ali Qapu of Isfahan palace there are two halls where were places for official affairs. On the third floor there is a porch on 18 pillars. They covered these pillars with mirrors. The ceiling with big planes that the planes decorated with painting using wooden tools. In the middle of the porch, they made a pool with marble and copper. You can also take a look above your head and see symmetry of that pool on ceiling. In addition, you can find out that the porch overlooks the square. As you see there is a wide area in front of you. That area was the field where men played polo matches in there. The kings watched the polo from that porch.
Music hall
In music hall, the architects, built walls and ceilings in such a way in order not to have extra sounds. Therefore, there was a good place for playing musical instruments. On the wall you can see the shape of cups and goblets which not only shows the architectural creativity and art but also makes a good atmosphere for preventing extra noise and reflection during playing musical instruments.
