Abbasi mosque of Isfahan is one of important mosques in Iran and also another one in Naqsh-e-Jahan square of Isfahan. The same as Sheikh Lotfollah mosque this mosque is also another masterpiece in tiling and architecture. Soltani mosque or Jame mosque of Abbasi which are other names of this historic place was a big project for architects.

History

They started building Abbasi Mosque of Isfahan in 1020 AH in 24th year of Abbas the great empire. The decoration and tiling finished in his successor age. In addition, architectures built this at the behest of Abbas the great

Architects

Above the main entrance there is an inscription with Thuluth script which Alireza Abbasi did that. On other inscription in Thuluth script, Mohammad Reza Emami mentioned and admired the Ali Akbar Isfahani as the architect and also Moheb Ali Beikollah as a supervisor.

Architecture

The height of the big dome is 52 meters and diameter of 23.5 meters. The height of minarets are 40 meters. In addition, they made under the dome in a way that sound reflects when Azzan is being sung. In southern part of the Abbasi Mosque of Isfahan there are two schools. one of them is Naseri school and the other one is Soleimanieh school. The height of great southern porch is 33 meters and two minarets like northern minarets have 48 meters of height. Sheikh Bahaee calculated the Qibla direction with only 7 degrees deviation. He used Qibla finder tools in that age in order to build the mosque building in right direction of Qibla.
