Vank is name of a historic cathedral in Julfa district of Isfahan. This cathedral is one of the beautiful cathedrals in Armenian’s district. Because of these features, this place is one of the attractive places for tourists. After great migration in 1605 Ah or 1654 AD at the behest of second Shah Abbass (Shah abbas II) Armenian came and built there at first step.
Feature
Vank Cathedral of Isfahan is the greatest and the most historic cathedral in Jolfa district, in terms of art, is the most beautiful one due to the walls and dome which Armenian painters decorated there with painting and gilding. This intriguing place has also another name which is Surp Amenna Perkich.
Inside this cathedral there are oil painting in Iranian style and Christ images similar to Italian paintings.
Architecture
Area
The Area of this place is around 8730 square meters but the area of main building and Vank garden is around 3860 square meters.
Church Bell
There is a 3-floor church bell tower opposite the main door which Armenian made there In Iranian style in era of Shah Sultan Husayn. On second floor of that tower there are four clocks on for sides with around 1 meter diameter. The dome in other churches has conic shape however in this cathedral this is similar to dome of mosques in Iran. On the other hand, the exterior view of building is raw brick unlike most churches which are made with stone.
Printery
In 1620 Khachatur Kesaratsi appointed to Pope of the Jolfa. In 1630 traveled to Europe and saw book printing there. When he came back to Jolfa he decided to constitute a printery. They printed and published four books in 1638 till 1342 in that printing house.
Museum
At the historic
Vank cathedral of Isfahan there is also a valuable things which date back to the age of Vank cathedral construction. The museum per se dates back to almost 100 years ago that a man whose name was Tatavoos Hoonanian, the book author of History of Julfa, established that.
If you visit there you can see painting from Europe and Armenian artists, golden and silver tools, manuscript of holy books, types of cross boxes and so many valuable things from at least 700 years ago.
Library
In age of great migration Armenian gotten rid of every thing they had in their home town, however the books were the things which they couldn’t forget. Because of that they brought so many books to Isfahan with them. These books was always valuable things for Armenian people.
