Between the plenty of historic architectural masterpieces in Isfahan, Jame mosque of Atigh, is the most ancient and oldest one. The general shape and the art belong to Siljuks era but Jame mosque of Atigh has been restored in next eras especially in Safavid. Of course, researchers have found some proof which belong to older eras like Buyid dynasty and even third century AH.
According to the archaeological excavations, Jame mosque of Atigh used to be a fire temple before being a religious place for Muslims. Evidence with signs similar to Sasanian remains found on northern side of the mosque that has proved this.
Architecture
The architectural plan of Jame mosque of Atigh or Isfahan is comprised of four porches and gathered all innovations, arts, and medieval architecture in one place. Apparently, Jame mosque of Atigh had been made in first century AH when Abbasids had been governing IRAN.
This mosque has been damaged during the history by fire or being under attack but restored in different eras. Jame mosque of Isfahan has several entrances that is overlook different spaces like ancient alleys.

Four porches around the main yard are the special index of architecture of Persian mosques. This method that was popular among Persian architects in building mosques. Each porch has its own name, The northern one is called Dervish porch, The southern is called Saheb (=Lord), the western Ostad (=the Master in English) and Shagerd (=disciple in English).
