Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque of Isfahan is one of the other historic mosques in Iran and Isfahan city. It’s also another architectural masterpiece in Naqsh-e Jahan complex. In the era of Abbass the Great, Mohammad Reza Isfahani the Master of Architecture built Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque of Isfahan. Mahammad Reza Isfahani, one of the famous architects at that age started to build Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque of Isfahan in 1602 – 1619 AD. Two magnificent things are so attractive for you if you visit there:
- Tiling
- Alter
Because of the religious belief of Abbass the Great, he ordered to build such a mosque to respect for Sheikh Lotfollah Jabal Ameli. He came from Lobanon and was also Shah Abbas’s father-in-law. Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque of Isfahan is a fascinating exhibition of tiling and painting. So, if you walk among the aisle inside the mosque, you can enjoy the painting of walls which exhibits the Iranian painting and architectural art.
Tiling
The type of art for painting the tiles is Moaragh. Its location is on eastern side of Naqsh-e Jahan square and opposite the Ali Qapu. You can also see the art of tiling on exterior surface of the dome.
Due to this tile painting this is one the most beautiful mosques in Isfahan. In this mosque there are no porches, no entrance yards, no stairs and no minarets. This are the reasons which make this mosque distinguished from other ancient mosques in Iran.
Altar
Another masterpiece in the mosque is the art of Muqarnas and Moaragh which the artist used for painting and tiling the altar. Mohammad Reza Isfahani also wrote his name on tiling and introduced himself as artist with modesty.
Ali Reza Abbasi also wrote some narratives from prophet Mohammad and sixth Imam of Shia Muslims. Finally, the thing which I cannot describe is my emotion when I stood under the dome while the sunlight passed through the windows which are made under the dome and obtained illumination of the Mosque. Baqer Banna is one the calligraphers at that age who wrote some poem from Sheikh Bahaee on another inscriptions.
